Den Leader - Jeff Musiak

The scouting program begins at the Tiger Cub level for first grade boys (or 7 years old). Tiger Cubs do stuff - lots of stuff - with their adult partners. This program is intended to open up the world to inquisitive minds along with the caring guidance of adults. The first steps along the Boy Scout Trail are laid here and every rank advancement through the scouting program builds on the basic categories of activity done as Tigers.

The first five months of the Tiger Cub program are designed around five themes:
• Making my Family Special
• Where I Live
• Keeping Myself Healthy and Safe
• How I Tell It
• Lets Go Outdoors

Each month the scouts and their adult partners will participate in three activities related to each theme. Two will be completed as group with the Den and one will be completed as a family at home. The two den activities include the regular den meeting and a “Go See It”.

During the course of completing these five themes the scouts earn a colored bead to wear on their Tiger Totem (shown at right) each time they complete an activity. When they have earned all 15 of these beads they will be awarded their Tiger Cub rank.

Example - Where I Live
Den Activity:
The scouts color American flags and learn about flag design and flag etiquette.
(Orange bead earned)
Go See It:
Attend an open house at a local fire station and learn how they help the community.
(Black bead earned)
Family Activity:
Look at a map of your community and identify areas you are familiar with.
(White bead earned)

The remaining months are spent on similar elective activities of the Tiger Track as well as earning other awards. A complete list of electives and awards is contained in the Tiger Cub Handbook.
